Additional information

Nanometre-sized particles identified in tissues from failed hip joints for the first time. International reach via an invited presentation (UHMWPE Congress, Turin, 2009), and Tipper joining the organising committee, chairing sessions and presenting at the 5th and 6th UHMWPE Congress in Philadelphia (2011) and Turin (2013). Led to two industrial contracts to isolate wear particles from different UHMWPEs (DePuy Synthes, USA, gisaac@its.jnj.com), collaboration with Kurtz (skurtz@exponent.com, Philadelphia), two journal publications (Wirth et al, 2009; Bladen et al, 2013), two Case studentships (DePuy/EPSRC), transfer of the methodology to the spine and award of a NIH programme Grant (5R01AR052653-04, $2 million).
