Additional information

The concept in this paper maximised system performance and monitoring capability using a series of passive fibre taps to return optical power to the transmitter thus enabling the detection of faults. The work was used by Azea Networks to design a supervisory system for use in upgrading installed undersea high bit rate optical communication links which was the principle business driver for Azea Networks and contributed to their acquisition by Xtera Communications. Dr Stuart Barnes of XTera (stuart.barnes@xtera.com) can be contacted regarding this research.
