Additional information

Squeezing is a quantum effect that can have application in high sensitivity detection as used e.g. in interferometry. A new form of hybrid squeezing is proposed in photonic crystal fibres (PCF) which was inspired by work I did on squeezing in standard optical fibres. I contributed on the issues of time reversal symmetry in the context of spatial evolution equations and the problems of guided wave acoustic Brillouin scattering. This scattering is an important parasitic effect which hampers experimental work; since the possibility exists of designing PCFs to avoid it this may open a route for future applications.
