A lab-scale system to study submicron particles removal in wet electrostatic scrubbers
Nanometer particles (<1000 nm) present in Marine diesel engine exhaust are causing significant health problems among the population living within about 400 km from the cost. The work reported in this paper is a part of an EU FP7 funded research programme (DEECON), and deals with the abatement of such particles before releasing the exhaust into the environment. In this collaborative study, electrodynamic technique is used to achieve >90% removal efficiency of harmful nanometer particles for the first time. This research outcome is feeding into the on-going development of an integrated retrofit system of ship exhaust emission abatement of pollutants.
