Additional information
Tissue engineering scaffolds have a key role in making regenerative therapies a reality. Chemical modification of existing materials for designing new biomimetic scaffolds is an approach we adapted in this research. A decellularised extracellular matrix was functionalised with amine groups for tethering bioactive moieties, including growth factors, for application as biomimetic scaffolds for body-wall repair. The use of dendrimers for the functionalization of tissue engineering scaffolds has been of interest for the articles citing this paper. The work was funded by Enterprise Ireland.
