Additional information

The paper demonstrated, for the first time, a number of phenomena observed from online cable partial discharge monitoring systems. It also presented the effective denoising technique the authors developed, under an EPSRC funded project, and proposed a set of guidelines which will be essential for future development on the topic. The findings are important as they will allow incipient cable insulation defects to be identified with improved accuracy and criticality to be determined.

Recognising the technical advancement EDF Energy's UK subsidiary - British Nuclear Generation Ltd have now adopted the on-line monitoring techniques by investing £243k in GCU to develop cable and motor on-line monitoring systems for use in all UK nuclear power stations.
