Vagaries of the natural lottery? Human diversity, disability, and justice: A capability perspective

This chapter includes some ideas expressed in Terzi, L. 2004, ‘The Social Model of Disability: a philosophical critique’ Journal of Applied Philosophy, 21, 2, pp. 141-157, which addresses the philosophical problems of the social model of disability and in Terzi, L. 2005, 'A Capability Perspective on Disability and Special Educational Needs', Theory and Research in Education, 3,2, pp. 197-224. The content of the original articles are included in a summarized form, with the purpose of contextualising the main arguments presented in the chapter. These consist in philosophical considerations of justice for people with disability based on Amartya Sen’s and Martha Nussbaum’s capability approach.
