Additional information

Adsorption and transport of gases through nanoporous carbons (i.e. nanotubes, graphene sheets) is a key promising technique for the development of state-of-the art energy storage and membrane separations. In this joint experimental and simulation paper, product of EPSRC-funded research, (grant EP/D035171; £125k) we elucidate the problem of how to obtain reliable information on the porosity and surface area of single-walled carbon nanotube bundles from adsorption data. The impact of this work has spawned invitations to present it in plenary ( IBA1/EBA9, Brazil, 2012; FOA11, USA, 2013) and topical ( AIChE Annual meeting, USA, 2013) sessions.
