Double-weighted statement

Involves the analysis of all fieldwork conducted by the archaeological community over 40 years (1973 – 2003) on all Bronze Age shipwreck sites and isolated maritime metalwork finds known in the United Kingdom. These are the oldest shipwreck sites yet found outside of the Mediterranean. This multidisciplinary analysis, involving maritime archaeologists, period specialists, metallurgists and coastal geomorphologists, took the author over 10 years to complete and involved not only the discussion of the earliest direct evidence for maritime trade in Northern Europe but also the first test of the theory of maritime site formation processes not influenced by historical date.
