The prize acknowledge well conducted and well-written research in the field of development studies published in the EJDR, and identifies and promotes potentially important contributions in conceptual development. The Prize is adjudicated by a panel of scholars selected from the EJDR's editorial board. The winner receives a certificate and a cheque for £500.
