Additional information

By expressing a balanced optical measurement as an electronic gain, a step-change of precision in measurement science is achieved, enabling high-speed tomographic imaging of minor (or weakly absorbing) gaseous species. For this work, Pal (PhD 2009) won the “Scientific and Technical Excellence Award” (2010) of the Dept. of Atomic Energy, India. Focused on minor species in combustion exhaust and building on previous publications (DoI:10.1088/0957-0233/19/9/094018), this work led to a 2-year full-time secondment to McCann’s group by Dr. J.D.Black (Rolls-Royce plc, Royal Society-Industry Fellowship, 2009-11).
