Additional information

This seminal paper describes a novel permanent magnet generator, C-GEN, which overcomes the challenges of direct-drive generators for wind: mass, assembly and O&M. C-GEN is 30-40% lighter than conventional generators and the cost of energy is 3.2% less, verified independently by Garrad Hassan and Partners (Peter Jamieson, email available). Patents granted in the US (8339009; 8040011), Australia (2007226376) and China (CN101405931). Commercialisation is via NGenTec, www.ngentec.com, raising £7.2M of public and private investment creating 12 jobs and successfully demonstrating a 1MW machine.
