In this manuscript we were the first simulation group to investigate possible methods to stabilise dispersions containing graphene sheets. It was found that functionalization of the graphene edges could be useful, provided that branched groups were used. Subsequent experimental data obtained on small graphene sheets (similar to those simulated by us) showed that the techniques we proposed were indeed appropriate. The stabilisation of graphene sheets in various organic solvents can enable many practical applications for this fascinating material.
