On the modelling of valve point loadings for power electricity dispatch

This paper highlights a feature of the models used by the power dispatch modelling community which addresses the effect of valve openings on the performance of electricity generators. The model used for many of the case studies in the literature exhibits behaviour that is not realistic. The model parameters were derived from actual performance data. However, it appears that nobody has previously looked at the behaviour of the models with the actual parameter values derived. In this paper, we describe the unrealistic behaviour and attempt to motivate the community to address this deficiency.
