Limitations of quadrature-based moment methods for modeling inhomogeneous polydisperse fluidized powders
In this work I discuss important limitations, related to diffusive transport, of new Eulerian models recently proposed in the literature for polydisperse fluid-particle systems, developing two new Eulerian models that overcome these limitations. The models focus on fluidized beds, but can be applied to most multiphase systems. Of relevance to the multiphase flow community, these models should aid the design and analysis of fluid-particle process units. It has led to two collaborations: Cambridge/Chinese Academy of Sciences (analysis of a heat transfer problem of industrial relevance) and Imperial College/Nottingham University (modelling of dense polydisperse reactive fluid-particle systems) for new funding applications.
