Microfluidic multi-input reactor for biocatalytic synthesis using transketolase
For the first time, ‘fed- batch’ like substrate feeding strategies are applied to continuous-flow biocatalytic microreactors. With our novel multi-input design, different feeding strategies are easily tested. We successfully demonstrate a 5-fold increase in output concentration and throughput compared with a conventional single input reactor. This represents a significant step towards the process intensification capability that has thus far only been associated with chemical microreactors, and will dramatically accelerate the development of multi-step synthetic processes for complex molecular products now being investigated with Sigma Aldrich (Dr Roland Wohlgemuth, Roland.Wohlgemuth@sial.com).
