Social Selves was first published in 1991 and reprinted in 1992, 1993, 1995, 1998 and 2000, leading to the publication of a completely revised and re-written 2nd edition in 2008. This includes some material from the first edition but this has been updated with references to more recent literature. Two completely new chapters have been included (5 and 7) and the others substantially re-edited and re-written to incorporate new material and new ideas that take forward the original analysis, making the second edition a substantially new edition in its own right.
