This paper contains an important warning related to the inadequacy of current industry standard methods of predicting decay heat for designing safety systems of advanced reactors with unconventional fuel. The results presented in this paper were included in the latest edition of “Nuclear Systems Volume I: Thermal Hydraulic Fundamentals” by Todreas (ID_in_audit_file@mit.edu) and Kazimi (ID_in_audit_file@mit.edu) (Taylor & Francis, 1989 ISBN: 9781560320517) – a standard university textbook used by nearly all nuclear engineering departments worldwide.
