A preliminary conference version of this work was presented as Pelenur & Cruickshank, 2012, 'The social barriers towards adopting energy efficiency measures and behaviours in the home: a Manchester and Cardiff case study', and published in Proceedings of the Retrofit 2012 conference, Salford Quays, UK, 24-26 January 2012, University of Salford. Dr Laura Haynes, Head of Policy Research at the Behavioural Insights Team at the UK Government Cabinet Office used these papers as a basis for developing some of the questions in their questionnaire as part of their Loft Insulation Trial Project in 2012 .
