Comparison of the performance of photonic band-edge liquid crystal lasers using different dyes as the gain medium
This paper, amongst the Journal’s top 20 downloads for February 2010, shows for the first time that slope efficiencies of Liquid Crystal Lasers may reach an unprecedented 60%. The research led to a further EPSRC Technology Translation award of GBP864,033 (RG58436, 2010), a significant proportion of which was directly related to the research described in the paper. The research was highlighted as internationally excellent by the ERSRC Review Panel (http:www.epsrc.ac.uk/SiteCollectionDocuments/Publications/reports/BTReport.pdf) and has featured in many Invited talks at International Conferences including MRS, 2011 (notable paper, MRS Bulletin, 36, July 2011) and SPIE Optics and Photonics, Plenary, 2012.
