Additional information

The work on rotor design described in this paper is the basis for the design of large brushless doubly fed generators (BDFIGs) for wind turbines. The Department of Energy and Climate Change has recently funded Wind Technologies Ltd to develop a 5 MW BDFIG machine and this has led to a project at Cambridge under the Offshore Wind Component Technologies Development and Demonstration Scheme worth GBP176k (RG68301, started 1 April 2013) to work on large BDFIG design, especially rotor configuration.
