These two papers jointly set both theoretical and practical foundation for fuzzy rule interpolation. Led to special issues in leading journals (e.g. TFS (to be published), IJFS) and special/panel sessions at leading international conferences (e.g. WCCI2010, FUZZ-IEEE2011, WCCI2012, FZUU-IEEE2013). Work following this research has received multiple prestigious awards, including one best paper at WCCI2010 (coauthored by Shen), the best paper at FUZZ-IEEE2011, and a best paper at WCCI-2012 (coauthored by Shen).
