Additional information

A co-authored paper developed following research into photographic practice in the digital era, which has been a significant research area of the Northern Centre of Photography. Specifically this paper considers how the contemporary engaged photographer works in the new world of mass participatory photography. The paper includes an analysis of a range of contemporary examples within the gallery, museum of photography and some approaches to commissioning.

The paper attempts to bring together a new analysis of photographers’ work in this area which has not been conducted or collated in this way before.

The paper was presented at the Association of Art Historians (AAH) 38th annual conference 2012 (attended by 430 national and international delegates) in the conference session ‘Your Photographs on our Walls’: Public-Generated Photography in Art Exhibitions.’
