Additional information

The paper introduced novel concepts in the design of dispersion-managed soliton based fibre and laser systems. In pulsed laser systems, dispersion management allows control of non-linearity offering new designs of high power lasers. The RA-co-author Dr. Brandon Bale, subsequently took a post at MIT Lincoln Lab. The work led to two FP7 Marie Curie IEF grants (DISCANT, HARMOFIRE), Royal Academy of Engineering grant, and 10 invited talks at the leading international conferences and workshops. The collaboration has been formalised in 2013 with the formation of the Aston–Novosibirsk University International Centre for Photonics, with a Russian contribution of 80M roubles.
