Influence of Ru additions on the corrosion behaviour of WC–Co cemented carbide alloys in sulphuric acid
Conventional tungsten carbides are widely applied in industry as a coating for protection against wear and high temperature oxidation, due to their excellent hardness and thermal stability. Although the beneficial effects of Ru additions to WC-Co alloys have been investigated and described before, this is the first reported investigation on the effect of Ru on the corrosion resistance of such alloys under reducing acid conditions. It was proven that the beneficial effect of Ru on the stability of the base alloy was due to a synergistic effect of both anodic inhibition as well as a lowering of the hydrogen overpotential.
