Treffers-Daller took the initiative to organise the workshop on which the SI was based. The main aim was to bring together researchers in Second Language Acquisition and Bilingualism, as researchers working in these two fields are not always aware of each other's work. Both groups of researchers share an interest in the ways in whether or not bilinguals or L2 learners can keep their languages separate. Traces of one language are often visible in spoken or written products in the other language. This process is sometimes called transfer and sometimes crosslinguistic influence. Treffers-Daller took the lead in liaising with contributors, and approached the Editor of IJB with a proposal to publish a SI in the journal. She also wrote the introduction to the SI. In total she contributed 60% of the work towards the edition. The review process was shared with the second editor (40%). Treffers-Daller contributed one article to the SI.
