Double-weighted statement

Partially based on my DPhil (2006), this monograph was substantially reworked for publication, with a new introduction, expanded chapters and new case studies. At 125,000 words, it is considerably longer than many comparable studies. Sources include journals, festival programmes and scores requiring research abroad: most are presented to an English-speaking readership for the first time. I created a database comprising 500 works; for some I offer the first ever musicological engagement. The monograph’s argument is novel, developing a methodology that unites historicism, constructivism and identity studies in a way that will influence future work beyond the discipline of musicology.
