Additional information

This paper proposed, for the first time, a flexible approach that maximizes the average performance of beamforming systems, while still considering channel uncertainties. This work was an interdisciplinary collaboration with Maths, applying for the first time stochastic optimisation theory to MIMO systems. This paper led to an exchange visit with National Key Lab, Southeast University, China and a joint journal paper DoI:10.1007/s11277-012-0636-0.There was also an invited paper at 11th International Conference on Signal Processing, Beijing, 2012 (DoI:10.1109/ICoSP.2012.6491855). This work has been further extended by researchers in China (DoI:10.1109/LCOMM.2012.112812.121829), Canada (DoI:10.1109/VTCFall.2012.6399219) and Australia (DoI:10.1109/TAP.2012.2225014).
