A family of oxide ion conductors based on the ferroelectric perovskite Na0.5Bi0.5TiO3.
New oxygen ion conductor, observations at Sheffield of high leakage current in this dielectric/ferroelectric. Material is closely related to excellent Li conductor La2/3-xLixTiO3, Na mobility was suspected. Collaboration of three laboratories used techniques developed at Imperial to prove unambiguously material is an oxygen ion conductor. Discovery is significant for two reasons, for dielectric and ferroelectric applications shown how to minimise leakage current, by control of A-site stoichiometry. For SOFC/SOEC applications opens up new class of perovskite ion/mixed conductors. Conductivity at low temperatures equivalent to some of best known materials for as yet un-optimised composition. Composition is free of rare earths.
