Double-weighted statement

The monograph is innovative in its deployment of the uncatalogued records of England’s first regional arts association, ‘NorthArts’ and the previously embargoed archive of the Tyne and Wear Development Corporation. Oral testimony together with previously unused material in the BBC Written Archive facilitated a pioneering model of the relationship between regional cultural policy and economic development. This is the first study to apply historical analysis in this field. ‘This well informed, closely researched and perceptive work offers the first serious assessment of the evolution of regional cultural policy since 1945…undeniably an important work’ (Twentieth Century British History, 2011).
