Additional information

Optogenetic (genetic engineering technique rendering neurons photosensitive) variants of retinal prosthesis have the potential to bring back functional sight for those with the Retinitis Pigmentosa disease. This international collaboration with Egypt (AlAtabany), and outcome of EP/F029241, €2.1M FP7: 249867 (both PI: Degenaar) describes a processing architecture to realise such a prosthesis. To mitigate adversity to GM enhanced prostheses, we created an award winning documentary video (IoT design award 2011 http://postscapes.com/best-design-fiction-2011). This was presented at the human plus exhibition, Dublin, and was reported by the Guardian, Wired, and EPSRC Pioneer magazine, and featured in a new Discovery Channel documentary.
