A Theoretical Analysis of the Harmonic Content of PWM Waveforms for Multiple-Frequency Modulators
Presents a novel and generalised analytical method for quantifying output voltage harmonic components in carrier-based pulse width-modulated voltage-source converters (VSC). The key novelty is the use of double Fourier series expansions in two variables to realise a general solution for modulation waves that include both fundamental and baseband harmonic components, as encountered, for example, in VSC active power filters. This is a significant advance over established analytical models which cater only for the modulation fundamental. Its value in providing insight into the interaction with the carrier is illustrated by its use in analysis which draws out several fundamental observations.
