Additional information

The method presented goes far beyond preceding, monthly, energy-only assessments by harnessing characterisations of hourly to annual power demand patterns. This projects robustly the impact of climate change on the peak demand patterns, essential for planning generation and transmission infrastructure. The work was key to securing EPSRC funding for the Adaptation and Resilience in Energy Systems project (ARIES, EP/I035773/1, £772k) with National Grid, and others. The work has stimulated further climate impact and adaptation research internationally: Australia, DoI:10.1016/j.apenergy.2012.03.059; Netherlands, DoI:10.1016/j.energy.2009.07.037; Ireland, 10.1108/17568691211223141; China, DoI:10.1016/j.enconman.2010.08.023; as well as the UK, DoI:10.1016/j.renene.2012.12.049.
