Imperial Gothic : Religious Architecture and High Anglican Culture in the British Empire, c.1840-70
Funded by grants from the AHRC, the British Academy, the Paul Mellon Centre for Studies in British Art, and the Graham Foundation for the Advancement of Study in the Fine Arts. The book was awarded the 2013 Alice Davis Hitchcock Medallion by the Society of Architectural Historians of Great Britain, in recognition of “the best architectural history book published in the past four years by a British author or by a foreign author on a British architectural historical subject”.
This output is the result of a decade of intense archival research carried out on five continents and in 11 different countries. In order to complete this work, Bremner travelled for several months each year over many years. The final product is a well-illustrated, peer-reviewed piece of some 200,000 words.
