Facilitating the Analysis of a UK National Blood Service Supply Chain Using Distributed Simulation
<25> The creation of large-scale process-based simulations is extremely complex. An alternative is to create (or reuse) a set of smaller models connected together via a network. The IEEE 1516-2000 High Level Architecture defines the middleware required to do this. However, this is very difficult to use. To simplify this, a set of “interoperability patterns” have been developed and standardised. This paper presents a healthcare case study in large-scale distributed simulation that illustrates the technical concepts that led to the development of the standard SISO-STD-006-2010 “Standard for COTS Simulation Package Interoperability Reference Models”.
