English abstract

Due to the misconceptions surrounding parody, literary criticism is often contradictory regarding the purpose of parody in contemporary fiction. Lange outlines how the perception and application of parody has changed significantly since its first appearance in Aristophanes. In reaching a contemporary definition the book delineates closely linked stylistic resources and clarifies related literary concepts in Cuban and Mexican fiction. In this study, the diversity and creative potential of modern parody is highlighted. Parody in Latin American fiction is critical and self-reflective, pays tribute to previous literary achievements, or provides a commentary on other texts or general literary issues.
