Additional information

This work describes the theoretical underpinning for design and exploitation of photonically coupled multiband filters integrated with THz semiconductor lasers. The key output is a predictive modelling framework for future designs. It is confirmed that a time-domain model, incorporating a novel tuning architecture, can successfully predict the device design parameters required for fabrication. The model has wide flexibility and was used for example to calibrate the focussed ion beam lithography tolerances required to fabricate switchable THz over fibre lasing systems (DOI:10.1063/1.4807636). It provided the basis for consequent rapid publications of further research in this and other highly rated journals (DOI:10.1063/1.4804674).
