Auden’s O: The Loss of One's Sovereignty in the Making of Nothing
Conceived in 2006 as an expansive history of ideas around the concepts of One and Nothing, the book crosses over multiple disciplines. It offers a definitive exegesis of Auden’s lengthy poem “The Sea and the Mirror”, and also traces conceptual histories through science, religion, philosophy, cultural studies and feminism. SUNY Press encouraged the addition of a chapter on ethics, as well as further introductory and concluding material. In acknowledgement of its wide interdisciplinary reach, SUNY is now marketing the 300-page book under the following categories: Hermeneutics, Literary Criticism, Literature, Philosophy, Postmodernism, Religion and Theology.
