Additional information

Brubaker co-organised the conference which generated this volume, which provides the first modern synthetic examination of the Byzantine family and the Byzantine Life Course. She delivered the introductory framing talk and the concluding wrap-up at the conference, and chaired 3 of the 4 sessions. She was, in short, responsible for the intellectual framing of the material, and in fact supervised one of the contributors (Eve Davies) whose PhD forms the basis for her own chapter in the book. In the resulting volume, Brubaker wrote the framing preface (pp xix-xxv), a substantial chapter (pp 177-206), and edited all other chapters.
