Significance of output:

An advanced open rotor is a novel aircraft engine which promises significant reductions in fuel burn relative to turbofan engines. It is currently being investigated by leading aircraft manufacturers. The minimisation of the noise which the open rotor produces is critical if it is to be viable. This work describes the development of a theoretical model for predicting the dominant source of broadband noise produced by an advanced open rotor engine. This model is currently the state of the art for predicting this noise source has been incorporated into the open rotor noise prediction methods used by Airbus and Rolls-Royce.
