Photoluminescence of colloidal CdSe/ZnS quantum dots: the critical effect of water
Significance of output:
A model for the effects of water and oxygen on the photoluminescence yield of colloidal quantum dots is provided for the first time. The underpinning photophysical and photochemical insight from this work has now been exploited by others for a range of applications covering the optical device to biology fields (for instance Qian, Nature Photonics (2011) 5, 543). This research was done in collaboration with the University of Cambridge (J.J. Baumberg) and Sheffield (T. Whittle), was funded by the EPSRC and provided some of the underpinning data to yield a £1M programme from the BBSRC. (BB\I022791/1, 1/2012-6/2015, PI Melvin).
