Additional information

First comparative edition of Vainglory, including Chronology, 9000-word Introduction, Further Reading, Note on the Text and an Appendix of textual variants between UK and US editions. The volume also contains Inclinations, with its one variant chapter for the US, and Caprice, as well as E M Forster’s influential critical appraisal. These early novels exemplify the author’s distinctive, widely overlooked contribution to the modernist canon, contextualising his innovations through allusions to peers such as Joyce, Proust and Woolf. It also references the many authors who were influenced by his oeuvre, including Hemingway, Huxley, Powell, Stein, van Vechten, Waugh and Wodehouse.
