Additional information

This paper presents the first use of microlensed diamond in a microchip semiconductor disk laser enabling an array of wavelength-versatile, high-brightness and coherent light sources in a compact format. The involvement of both Osram GmbH [ulrich.steegmueller@osram-os.com] and Toptica GmbH [President: wilhelm.kaenders@toptica.com] in the FP-6 grant that funded this work [NATAL – grant reference 016769, 2005-2008, €2.7M] indicates its industrial relevance. The work led to an invited talk at ASSP (Denver, 2009, Paper ME1) and an invited book chapter (“Semiconductor Disk Lasers”, Ed. O.G. Okhotnikov, publisher John Wiley, 2010).
