Additional information

This EPSRC funded (GR/S43962/01) study based on my work on previous EC funded project (QLK5-2001-00289) for sustainable use of vegetation for slope stability. The results of this study increase the deterministic understanding and improve the modelling of the root-soil reinforcement processes. The results can be used for plant selection for remediation or protection against natural disaster in a changing climate. Future research will focus on determination of the fundamental mechanics and modes of failure of roots during landslides which will serve as an input into an assessment model to be used by foresters, agricultural and civil engineers.
