Additional information

Carried out under EC-funded project ECOSLOPES (QLK5-2001-00289) and previous collaboration with Utrecht University and INRA (France) , the investigation in this paper quantifies for the first time the performance of a widely used plant for slope stabilisation in Europe. The findings from this study, which differ from commercially promoted findings in other regions, were used for developing a numerical model for root reinforcement which will help geotechnical engineers to more realistically assess the reinforcing effect of vegetation on slopes and effectively design measures for slope instability mitigation and erosion control.
