<17>This new weighting scheme for the linear combination of component results in information retrieval was developed in collaboration with Hohai University, China. This work has been exploited in an image retrieval system with the Lucene's search engine for querying medical images from the PubMed image archive by Gkoufas, Morou and Kalamboukis, University of Athens (published in “IPL at ImageCLEF 2011 Medical Retrieval Task” (http://ipl.cs.aueb.gr/publications/IPL-2011.pdf)). It also contributed to Wu securing an invited professorship award from Jiangsu Provincial Council of China.
