Additional information

<17>In the literature, score-based approaches (in contrast to rank-based) to data fusion in information retrieval have been shown to be effective, but the approach is ad hoc. This paper is important in that it derives axiomatic requirements for the score-based approach to work effectively, providing, for the first time, guidance on how score-based approaches should be developed in the future.
