Additional information

This study of a mutation in the first microRNAs to be associated with hearing reveals a major role in regulating the complex auditory development, with many downstream effects and is a model of human progressive hearing loss. It brought income into Keele and led to further collaboration with Sheffield University producing several publications (Furness et al, 2013; PNAS, 110, 13898; Johnson et al, 2013, PNAS;110, 8720-5; Zampini et al, PLosBiol,:e1001048). It was funded in part by the Henry Smith Charity and Deafness research UK (Grant KLE:545).
