Most chapters in this book are based on papers given at the Music in Nineteenth Century Britain Conference hosted by the University of Birmingham in 2007. As sole editor, Rodmell: invited and selected authors to contribute expanded versions of their papers to a coherent but varied collection; secured publication and managed all dealings with the publisher; undertook a critical assessment of all contributions, and suggested amendments and improvements. Rodmell also contributed the chapter 'James Mapleson and the 'National Opera House''.
