The research explores a new fixturing concept utilising methodologies for rapid reconfiguration and part-to-fixture positioning. The approach is demonstrated using an experimental modular fixturing system consisting of movable actuators and sensors. The results of the work are currently exploited by developing a new family of large scale reconfigurable fixtures in the aerospace industry (contact: mark.summers@airbus.com).
